WE ARE PROUD SUPPORTERS of several local nonprofits in Essex, Morris, and Union counties:
Good Grief,
HomeFirst Inc. and
the Columbia High School Cougar Booster Club.
In January 2006,
the Courier News (
.pdf) and The Independent Press (
.pdf) featured our volunteer project to re-design the Interfaith
Council for the Homeless' family/day room. The room is used for after school programs, board meetings, families waiting to talk with staff members, and homeless children to "stay home" sick from school. The challenge was to create a welcoming, long-lasting, multi-use space without changing the lavendar walls which had just been painted by volunteers.
OUR DESIGN started with a warm color scheme and three large oil paintings specially commissioned for the room. We selected hardworking furniture, including an oversized storage ottoman, a drop leaf table that expands to seat 12 adults, and comfortable sofas with heavy-duty fabric. A colorful area rug, custom scarf swags for the windows, accessories, and a new laminate floor completed the transformation.
